The Safety Committee is working to update our Work Place Violence Program. To assist with this we would like to get a better understanding of the incidence of work place violence/harassment here at MHLC. Please fill this out as accurately as you can. All responses will be anonymous. To assist you with answering the following questions we would like to provide you with some definitions.
WORK PLACE VIOLENCE: Per Occupation Health and Safety Administration (OSHA)
“Any act or threat of physical violence, harassment, intimidation, or other threatening disruptive behavior that occurs at the work site. It ranges from threats and verbal abuse to physical assaults and even homicide.”
Acts of workplace violence can be perpetrated by staff, patients or visitors. It can also include, but is not limited, to threats (words or gestures), verbal abuse or harassment, physical assault, sexual abuse/assault/rape, vandalism or property damage, theft, robbery, and financial abuse.
HARRASSMENT: According to the United States Equal Opportunity Commission:
“Harassment is unwelcome conduct that is based on race, color, religion, sex (including sexual orientation, gender identity, or pregnancy), national origin, older age (beginning at age 40), disability, or genetic information (including family medical history).”
MHLC considers any behaviors that affect tangible job benefits, that interferes unreasonably with an individual’s work performance, or that creates an intimidating, hostile or offensive working environment harassment. Harassment can occur as a result of a single incident or a pattern of behavior where the purpose or effect is to create a hostile, offensive or intimidating work environment.
